We’re following more than 100 open IT, website and audio-visual projects across the South East. Seven in ten come from parish and town councils.

What we find

The IT and digital
work we’re following.

Where a figure has been published, six in ten are under £25,000.

Most small councils have no IT department. The clerk handles it alongside everything else, so a firm that makes it simple is the one they’ll want to use.

Open projects in the counties we cover, November 2026. A picture of now, not a promise of future volume.

How it gets bought

Who decides,
and when.

See what’s in each lead

The clerk buys for everyone

In a small council the clerk is often the only member of staff, and councillors decide at a meeting. A short, plain quote they can put in front of the council goes a long way.

Rules give councils a reason to act

Accessibility rules for public sector websites and the move to gov.uk email addresses have prompted many councils to look again at what they have.

Bigger systems are advertised

District and unitary councils normally put larger systems out to tender. Hearing early gives you time to prepare and to register on the right portal.

Straight answers

A few things
you might ask.

More in our general questions, or email
hello@beforetender.co.uk

Do you only cover parish councils?

No. Most of this work comes from parish and town councils, and we also cover churches, halls and larger councils.

Do you include audio-visual and CCTV?

Yes. Tell us which of these you do and we’ll leave out the rest.

Are these jobs too small to bother with?

Some are. Each lead shows any published figure, so you can skip what doesn’t suit you. A small council that likes your work may also recommend you to its neighbours.
